Flamingos are filter feeders. Their beaks have unique comb-like structures that help trap food (algae, small crustaceans, plankton) and allow water to escape. This allows them to thrive in wetlands with shallow muddy waters.
Fresno Chaffee Zoo is a zoo for all. Thanks to our partners at @valleychildrens, our George`s Pass sensory backpacks are available for guests to support their Zoo visit. NEW guests can now keep their George`s Pass backpacks for their next Zoo visit. Noise-cancelling headphones will continue to be available for check-out.

King Vultures got their name due to their habit of dominating carcass feedings from other smaller vultures and making them wait until they get their fill. Another reason is a Mayan legend about how the bird was a king who served as a messenger between humans and gods.
